You can take the following trains from Howrah to New Mal Junction Station. Kolakham is only 70 KM from New Mal Junction Railway Station. You can take a private vehicle to Kolakham.

There is Siliguri to Kalimpong bus service operated by local transporters and government at regular intervals. Trekker service (shared) is also available from Siliguri to Kalimpong and further from Kalimpong to Lava. Mainly Nepalese, Chinese, Bengali food is available in the homestays. However very few food joints offer North Indian, South Indian foods too in peak tourist season. You must try out the local delicacy of Nepali food and farm-fresh organic vegetables. Homestays offer four times food (Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks, and Dinner) at a price of 500/- 600/- per person per day. Chicken dishes are to be ordered in advance.
